Kimono Applique

This is my entry for the last of Margaret's quilt exchange groups for 2008, and it should be at it's new home by now. This has been a fun group to be a part of, and I look forward to more of what Margaret put's together. Also, if any of you know of other groups, I would appreciate a heads up on what is going on.

This quilt was mailed to Canada. The gal there likes the oriental creations and I thought she might like this.

You can't see it well in this picture, but it is outlined with yellow sead beads, has embroidery embelishments, and beads in other locations.

I hope she likes it. I know I enjoyed working on this new technique of applique, an in adding all the special touches.

Pina Pleasure - Spring Fling Fall 2008

It has been some time since there has been an entry in this blog, and with the new Spring Fling group starting, I am adding the most up to date items.

This is a Sneak Peak at the center block that I am forwarding. I have named the center block Pina Pleasure. Let's see how it turns out in the end.

Final Quilting of the Young Lovers

This little quilt is absolutely beautiful.
Laila did exquisite hand work in the center block.
Jeanette selected great fabrics, and the circles, I feel, added a wonderful touch.
Julie's braid was skillfully put together - incredible technique!

So, when I looked at it, I decided there was no way to pay tribute to all the great work, by machine quilting. I hand quilted the center. It is in a shadow/ripple effect.

And as stated below, because of the embroidery used on the couple, I used some embroidery while finishing the quilt. In fact, the label has ribbon and flowers added to it as well.

Thank you for the opportunity to work on this quilt. I honestly believe it will become an heirloom one day.!!.

I have one appointment next week and I promised to bring this for show and tell. So, after that event, this will be in the mail to it's new home.

Final Quilting of the Little Lovers

The quilt is done. The backing supplied by Julie was used to bind it. The color was just right, the circles mirrored the circles placed by Jeanette, and it just seemed right.

Around the outside blue border, I embroidered with a maroon ribbon and I think it pulls the colors together. Just outside the 1st blue border I quilted with blue embroidery thread, and just inside the 1st border I embroidered with the same blue thread.

Little Couple

I am one of the luckiest women!!! This is the cutest block when you look at it on the blog, BUT, when you see it in person, it is amazing. The hand work in the center, the simple yet beautiful 1st border, and the great braiding... I feel it a privilege to be able to quilt this. Thank you ladies for your wonderful work. I know that the lucky lady on my list will love this when she gets it.!!!.

By the way, the backing sent is a cream color with maroon circles and is the sweetest fabric. Once it is done, I think you will agree.

2nd Border on Tulip Block

What a fight!!! This is the 3rd border I put on this quilt. The first two just did not work. So, instead of trying to tone down the color, I brightened it up. The yellow in the center of the square/triangle is the same yellow that is in one of the tulips, and in one of the prarie points. I will be sending a purple fabric for the back and binding.

I have never had a quilt with a mind of it's own... this was my first experience. What an interesting process. !! . So, this will be off to the next person and the quilting will begin.

Crazy Amish Quilt

The quilt is done!! I am so excited about the finished product. I used bright, bold colors on the front and a panel for the back. The person this is going to said she loved purple and wanted something modern. The next thing to do is finish the label and then it goes in the mail. I hope she likes it!!! Oh, and to give credit where credit is due, the pattern is from Quilters Cache and is called a "Crazy Amish Quilt". It originally is sized for 6" blocks, however to make the proper size for this exchange, I made it smaller and brighter.

It is so interesting how things change during the process. After identifying Purple as the color that would be added to settle the block down, Purple was not the color it needed. I took it to The Cutting Edge to use their fabric selection and polled the gals in the store (customers included - all opinions are always welcome during the design process). It was unanimous!!!! Pink was selected.

The block is now on point, pink is the color for this new "border", and there will be applique.

As soon as the applique is on, I will post the picture.

Day 2 of Consensus - Border 2 on Tulip Block

Yesterdays Census seems to be the same as Thursdays. The gals in my office get to see my quilts and are getting pretty good about giving their opinions. At first they weren't sure what I was looking for. Now they know I just want to honestly hear what they see, what they would have done differently with the color, or what they would do next.

I understand from listening to other quilting gals that have children in their quilting home, they use them in the same way. They will put the quilt on the design wall and then call the kids in to get their opinion. It helps.!!.

So, this weekend I will be selecting fabrics for a quilt block that 1) Will go on point 2) the border points will be predominently Purple (not sure what hue or tone) 3) This will be pretty much a plain area so that it will settle your eyes down from all the color and design in the block thus far 4) Not sure about what flower will be appliqued on each corner to tie it all in 5) And I'm taking it to my Thimbleberries meeting this morning so that I can use the stores fabric selection - much larger than my own.

Tomorrow is another day, and hopefully more comments from the gals at work.
These, along with anything I receive on my blog, will be considered... And, this will be done by next weekend. I have the quilt project for Thimbleberries to work on, a baby quilt that is a week over due (baby is here), and the Quilt Exchange for the Four Seasons Exchange.
Also, a special thanks to Super Mom for taking the time to read my blog and give her ideas for my step on this creative block/quilt. I am so enjoying this group and the challenge!!!

It Arrived!!! The Daffodils are here!!! Wow what a splash of color!! I am so impressed with how Nikki decided on the Prairie Points and was able to tie it all together with the outside border.

Now for the stare down.... I have it with me at work today and have everyone giving me their opinion.

Hopefully, after the survey today and tomorrow I will have an idea from others that I can take to my craft room for the search of fabric. I'll let you know how that goes! If you have any ideas, please be sure and let me know.

Spring Declarations of a Quilter

Recently the "Patchwork Party 2008" was found! Wow what a great selection of blocks.

I am collecting all of them during their suggested time line, and am looking forward to finishing my quilt with one of their "finishing" selections. While this challenge is not like the Round Robin I am involved in, I think it will be great challenge none the less.

And then again.. I have so many items (in all manner of crafting that I do) that are sitting and quietly nudging me to finish them. I'm not sure why I decided to take on another challenge.. but my thought was -- this one is only two blocks a month! AND, a quilt will be complete in one year. :>)

So,,, now I have the Round Robin Spring Fling 2008, Thimbleberries, a quilt for the Four Seasons Quilt Swap, the Patchwork Party 2008, as well as other projects that have been in action for 2 years now. I swore this year would be different. That this year I would save some time for ME. Another New Year Resolution broken!!!

Sunset Quilt Block with First Border

What a GREAT addition to my Sunset Block. The Arizona Sunsets are awsome. And, these colors are in every one of them. The green in the cactus, the orange, yellow, blue, etc... incredible. Thank you for making my original work look .... outstanding!!!

Now I can't wait to see what the next Creator will do!!!

1st Border Spring Fling 2008

After struggling with the fabrics I selected, I realized that all the florals, oriental prints, etc. just clashed with the wonderful flowers that were produced. So I put all those fabrics away and went with plain colors. Those were narrowed down to the periwinkle fairy frost and the white on white. They were originally going to be a ribbon affect all around the block, however they never got passed a "rick rack" affect! So, never getting the hang of the ribbon "look", I changed to a modified chevron.
The flip fold around the original block, uses the fabric from the center of the flowers. The chevron is next. And then I played with the gold fabric and added seed beads on the folds. It is hard to see here, but when you look at it in person, it is a very formal block. Unfortunately, my cell phone does not take the best pictures. The block is done and ready to go on it's way to the next creator.

Quilt Block Received

Everyday I'd stop by my mailbox like I was expecting a "present". And, everyday to take the edge off my disappointment, I'd go on line and take a look at the quilt blocks posted to see what new creations there were to see.

One block I fell in love with was the "origami" style flowers. Oriental fabrics and styles are something I gravitate to. Needless to say, this one did catch my eye.

Yesterday I went to my mail box, and there it was!!! IT ARRIVED!!!!! The Origami Style Flower Block!! How lucky am I!!!!!!!

So, of course, I immediately took it out of the envelope, with the 3 fabric selections I received, the label and sweet note from Tami, and I put it on my dining room table. Next I went to my craft room and pulled a stack of fabrics that I thought might go well with the block. After auditioning fabrics for about an hour, I narrowed the selection down to a few white on white, 1 fairy frost, and 3 from my Oriental collection. I will be living with these for the next week while the design becomes evident. Once this process is done, I will publish the basics here for all to see.

Thank you Tami for such a wonderful gift! I hope that I can add to your creation in a way that enhances it. Keep your fingers crossed!

Quilt Block Delivered

It was like sending my child out in the world in the hopes that they would return better than when they left.

I sent my center block by UPS and tracked it all the way to the front door. Such excitement!!! Of course, once it showed that it had been delivered, then I was able to breathe, knowing it was safe in the hands of it's new creator.

Now, it is all about the creativity of this quilter to see how it progresses to the next step. After looking at the blogg of this quilter, I know that we are going to see wonderful things on this next step.

Round Robin Spring Fling 2008

Well, my quilt block, label, samples of 2 different fabrics, and a pen for signing the label are on their way to Recipient "b" on my list. It is exciting to think that someone will be creating the next step, and I am full of wonder on what they will decide to do. This project can either be in keeping with the theme of the block, or can change it completely. So far, not everyone is putting their work on the blogg. So, if mine shows up, and I hope it does, I will post it here with the 1st border attached.
